A Journey of Ashes
"Before the first battle at Ostermark, we swore oaths to hold the line against the Champion of Chaos, Archaeon, and his Kurgan hordes. We had signed with Ritter's Pike when news of the sacking of Praag reached Reikland, and as we marched northward we formed oaths of our own, through the steady, month long march. We swore to see our brothers brought home.
"There were thirteen of us once."

The Border Princes Map
Journeying through the mountains, the party found a grove marked with the symbols of the Ruinous Power Slaanesh, and later encountered a giant. The party then reached the mountain stronghold Karaz-A-Karak and found it under assault by a Border Prince host. Rather than crossing a battlefield being cratered by cannonballs, the group traveled around the mountain to reach the secret entrance to the hold. Inside the hold, they found a grand effigy of Gork (or Mork?), and battled Goblin shamans. Before they could celebrate their victory, Grundi was shot dead by Wolfram, the sinister bodyguard of Prince Ignatz. Ignatz surrounded by his entourage and a few too many pikemen, relieved the party of the dwarven prize- the Gromril Hammer, and let them leave with their lives.
The group set off along the Old Dwarf Road, away from the Black Mountains and into the Forest of Gloom. With the destruction of the Karak, the road was swallowed by the strange forest, and the party struggled to find their way. Undeterred by darkness and spiderwebs, the group slew three giant spiders, and although poisoned and injured, pressed on to the shores of a rapidly moving river. Earlier, death-bound dwarves told the group of that this river could swiftly carry them out of the forest before night fell--before the forest's ghosts came forth from the soil. The group made a raft of fallen branches and vines, and kept silent as the river carried them westward and as the reflections of men standing silently upon the shore appeared as twilight approached. Reaching safety, the group warmed themselves by a campfire, and arrived at Helmgart. Glad to be back, they sought medical care and provisions. Before leaving the garrison town, they informed the local commander of Prince Ignatz' victory at Karaz-A-Karak. Fearful Ignatz's ambition, the commander asked the group to bring a message to the Emperor in Altdorf.

Those are WHFRP names! This setup sounds familiar; is it related to that mercenary company-based WHFRP game you ran a few years back?

They are! 3rd Edition mind you. It's similar, but with an "after the war" vibe.
